Viral story: 'Don't make me to do this'...MS Dhoni instructs CSK teammates!

Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is over the moon for keeping the journey on track towards securing a ticket to the playoffs in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). So far, Dhoni's yellow fleet has been splendid and has secured the second spot in the points table. As the team is aiming to finish big with just two matches left in the league stage, MS Dhoni has divulged that he has instructed the teammates 'Don't make me run a lot'.

Dhoni spilled the beans about his instruction after CSK defeated the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday at Chepauk, Chennai. During the match, Dhoni's struggle to run between the wickets was apparent as after suffering a cramp in the IPL 2023 opener, Dhoni has been nursing a knee injury and cited that his job in this season is to come down the order and deliver a final momentum with the bat.

MS Dhoni is presumably playing his last IPL season and from being an aggressive batsman, he has now changed the trend to shine during the final overs. His remarks had reminisced his performances in the final overs in this season where he refrained from running between the wickets more but to stick to scoring boundaries.

And yes, his performances in the final overs have conferred him a milestone as Dhoni remains the top player to hit more sixes in the final four overs in IPL history. While Dhoni has hit 162 sixes, Kieron Pollard had hit 127 sixes, followed by AB de Villiers (112), Andre Russell (87), and Rohit Sharma (78). In the match against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, Dhoni had a cameo at the end as he scored 20 runs off nine balls with two sixes.

There were instances where he suffered a lot to run between the wickets. Eventually, CSK had defeated Delhi Capitals by 27 runs and while addressing the presentation ceremony, Dhoni said that he had instructed the team not to make him run a lot and that his role in this season is to come down the order and offer a final flourish with the bat.

Dhoni said, "This what my job is, I have told them this is what I am supposed to do, don't make me run a lot and it has been working. This is what I need to do, happy to contribute." He further said, "As we get closer to the last phase of the tournament, it's important that everybody has a few deliveries under their belt."

Speaking about the match, Dhoni said, "It turned a lot in the second half. We know that our spinners use a lot more seam than some of the other bowlers. We thought it will slow down. We didn't know what's a good score. That's why I wanted the bowlers to bowl their best deliveries but not look for wickets every delivery. That's when you start not bowling well and bowl those loose deliveries."
