Viral story: This former Chief Minister clears Class 10 and 12 exams at the age of 87!

Former Chief Minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala has proved that age doesn't matter for pursuing education. He has turned heads from across the country after clearing the Class 10 and 12 exams at the age of 87. Yes, you read it right. The development has been going viral and become the talk of the nation after witnessing an octagenarian student clearing the school exams.

Om Prakash Chautala has received his mark sheets from the Haryana Education Board in Chandigarh on Tuesday - May 10. The former Chief Minister has appeared for the Class 12 board exams in 2021 under the Haryana Open Board. However, his result wasn't released because he had not yet passed a Class 10 English exam. 

He was told to clear the English exam after which he would get the results of the Class 12 exams. Chautala had then appeared for the Class 10 English exam last year and scored 88 marks out of 100. Chautala was earlier accused of committing a scam in teachers' recruitment in Haryana. He was awarded a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in the case and he was lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.

During his prison sentence, Chautala had cleared his Class 10 exams from the National Open School in 2017 from the prison. However, he had failed to clear the English exam. He had appeared for the English exam last year and he went on to clear the Class 12 exams at the age of 87. Son of Chaudhary Devi Lal, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Chautala has served as the Chief Minister of Haryana four times. 

Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala, and 53 others including former IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar were convicted and sentenced in the case of illegal recruitment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in 2000. They were all sentenced to jail terms in the case by a special CBI court in January 2013.

Om Prakash Chautala was later released from the Tihar jail and now, he has again earned attention for clearing the school exams successfully. Praising him for clearing the exams, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah tweeted, "A person is never too old to learn. Congratulations Chautala Sb."
