The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), which has become one of the country's pivotal metro rail projects, has been in the process of stretching its lanes across the city in the midst of the growing footfalls in the current phase as the metro trains have become an integral part of Chennaiites for their transportation.

Besides connecting top destinations, the Metro Rail has been expanding its connectivity to other parts of Chennai. According to reports, the CMRL has recently kickstarted its second phase of the project to expand the connectivity. The expansion drive has been carried out at a budget of Rs 60 crore and as part of the second phase, the CMRL will be establishing a metro rail route from Light House to Ponnammalee.

The route will be passing through Alwarpet, Nandhanam, Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, and Porur before reaching Ponnammalee. The project has been under construction and the route will be established with over 30 stoppings between two points. Currently, the CMRL has been in the process of acquiring lands from the respective landlords for the project and the notices are being sent to them asking them to produce their land for the construction of the stipulated route and in return, they will be awarded compensation. 

In line with that, the CMRL has sent a notice to actor Kamal Haasan, which had shocked him. Kamal Haasan's 'Raaj Kamal Film International' company's office is situated in Alwarpet, on the path where the CMRL has planned to construct the new route towards Poonammalee. In the notice, CMRL has informed Kamal Haasan that it will be acquiring 10 feet of the actor's land from his office for its project. The actor was also told that he will be receiving adequate compensation for his land.
