Voters' verdict: BJP's face in Gujarat gets ready to reign the state and PM Modi is all set to lead the celebrations!

In Gujarat, the current trend of election results which is favourable for BJP is less likely to get overturned as the party is nearing to record a landslide victory and to rule the state for the sixth consecutive time. By giving a major blow to the opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) through its strong pro-incumbency wave, the BJP is through a comfortable win.

BJP has begun to celebrate the voters' verdict that poured a year-end success for the party. According to reports, the BJP's face in the state, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is getting ready to reign Gujarat, perhaps for the next five years had there been no power transition within the party like how it was in the current term. In 2017, Gujarat won the polls and Vijay Rupani became the Chief Minister. However, Rupani didn't complete his term as Patel replaced him last year.

In the current polls, Bhupendra Patel contested in the urban constituency of Ghatlodia and after five rounds of counting, he had taken a comfortable lead over his immediate rival. As per the data released by the Election Commission few hours ago, Patel has secured 23,713 votes against 3,840 votes bagged by Congress candidate Amiben Yagnik. AAP's candidate Vijay Patel is also displaying a good run by securing over 2,000 votes.

Notably, Ghatlodia has a sheer dominance of the Patidar community and this constituency has given two Gujarat Chief Ministers - Anandiben Patel and Bhupendra Patel. Ghatlodia is part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency which is being led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It may be recalled that in 2017, Bhupendra Patel won from Ghatlodia with a huge margin of 1.17 lakh votes.

Interestingly, Bhupendra Patel will become the second Chief Minister of Gujarat in recent decades to serve as the Chief Minister for the second consecutive time after Narendra Modi. As Gujarat is the home state of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, winning every election in the state is a prestige issue for the BJP and this time, the record-breaking victory from Gujarat is expected to give a significant boost to Modi and the party to face upcoming polls including the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Gujarat has 182 assembly seats and the party that crosses the majority mark of 92 seats will rule the state. As per the latest chart published by the Election Commission, BJP is leading in 150 seats while Congress is leading in 22 seats. AAP has taken a lead in six seats and the trend indicates that BJP is all set to rule the state for five more years. On the vote share, BJP has garnered a vote share of 53.2% so far as of 12 pm while Congress has got 27%.

As BJP is celebrating a historic triumph, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lead the BJP's celebrations on Thursday at 6 pm in the party's central headquarters in Delhi. The BJP hoped to break the record of the 1985 election, where the Congress won 149 seats, by securing 150 seats. With that aim, Narendra Modi held more than thirty rallies in the final few weeks of BJP's campaign.

In the 2017 polls, BJP won 99 seats and till date, the BJP's highest record was winning 127 seats in the 2002 assembly polls. On the other hand, the beleaguered Congress party is struggling for a revival as the current trend shows that the party will less likely cross 30 seats, which is a sharp decline. In the last election, Congress bagged 77 seats and due to the party's internal political crisis and a lack of prominent face, Congress is getting inundated by the BJP's pro-incumbency wave.
