Walking on the chair: Thirumavalavan gets into a flood of controversy and how VCK responded back!

Tamil Nadu MP and Chief of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Thol Thirumavalavan has stirred controversy over his latest action of evading the walk on the waterlogged floor. Thirumavalavan represents the Chidambaram constituency in the current Lok Sabha and has been known for his advocacy towards social justice and against disparities. However, his act has given a talking point for his rivals who have been slamming him and questioning his ideology.

What's behind the strife?

Chennai has been receiving incessant rainfall throughout the current month and the downpour had inundated several parts and caused massive disruption. Thirumavalavan resides in Velachery, which is one of the areas in the city that will be blanketed by rainwater during every spell of the downpour. It has been a distressing experience for the people living in Velachery and Thirumavalavan has got into a flood of controversy through his way of evading the walk on the rainwater.

According to reports, Thirumavalavan was preparing to leave for Delhi to attend the Winter Session of the Parliament. When he exited his residence in the premises of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex, he saw that the outer area of his house was inundated by the rainwater. He was standing meters away from his car, surrounded by a dozen of partymen. With the view of avoiding walking on the rainwater, he had decided to walk on a sitting chair to get on board his car.

A video from the scene has shown that the partymen are making a way for their leader towards his car and they were seen pulling the iron chair as he stands and walks on it towards the car. It was a chain of chairs and he had an unhindered walk on them and got inside his car. The video was taken by the VCK's IT wing and it has been going viral on social media with several people came for and against Thirumavalavan over his action.

Several Tweeple had questioned Thirumavalavan and his advocacy for social justice while using his partymen as his helpers. A Twitter user commented, "Everyone can walk on rainwater, but Thirumavalavan can't. We must know what slavery is. It's time to wake up." Another user said, "This is how Thirumavalavan teaches how to attain social justice. Supporters will become slaves after getting power."  Another user, who displays to be a BJP supporter, asked what kind of atrocity is this.

Tamil Nadu BJP Youth Wing President Vinoj Selvam took to Twitter and shared the video and said, "What is this Thirumavalavan? This is how you treat the people who are with you." Several people and rivals of VCK had criticized Thirumavalavan and said that while many political leaders are walking on the rainwater, he didn't do that as he was worried that his shoe will get wet. As the incident has been sparking outrage, a senior leader of VCK has on Tuesday opened up about why Thirumavalavan had walked on the chair.

Why Thirumavalavan had walked on the chair?

VCK leader Vanni Arasu has on Tuesday expressed that there is a reason for his decision of walking on the chair and reiterated that Thirumavalavan had stood on many difficult grounds. In his statement, Vanni Arasu has said, "Every political leader in Tamil Nadu own a house but Thirumavalavan doesn't have a home in Chennai and no one was ready to rent him the house due to which the government had allotted him a home in a Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex in Velachery. Everyone has to understand that it is not his own residence.

Arasu said that as his house was covered by rainwater, there was a necessity for him to walk on chairs. It's not only for yesterday but he is going like this for the past ten days because the shoes and pant shouldn't; get wet and Thirumavalavan was supposed to go to Parliament and there was no way and how can he enter the Parliament with wet pants. He walked on the chair due to necessity. However, the people against him have been doing enmity politics. Furthermore, Thirumavalavan has been suffering from leg inflammation and he has been taking physiotherapy.

If he steps on the rainwater, the inflammation would increase and due to all these factors, he had decided to walk on chairs. We have worked in drainages, floods, rain, and storm and Thirumavalavan is someone who always stands on the ground and Vanni Arasu has claimed that a political leader can stay at star hotels. However, by leaving all these, he is staying with his brothers and added that BJP and its affiliates are spreading hatred against him.
