The king of Tamil cinema, Suriya, has given his fans a royal treat on his 48th birthday. The first glimpse of his upcoming film Kanguva, directed by Siva, was released on Sunday and it has set the internet on fire. The film, which is touted to be a historical epic based on events that happened 1500 years ago in Tamil Nadu, showcases Suriya as a fierce and fearless warrior who can capture a cloud, confront a white tiger, ride the wild elephant of Mukkaadu and instill fear in foes.

Studio Green took to Twitter and dropped the two and half minute glimpse, writing, "A warrior. A leader. A King! #Kanguva Presenting you the #KanguvaFirstLook #GlimpseOfKanguva  #HappyBirthdaySuriya"Against the backdrop of a starry night, the title teaser video reveals an eagle, a dog, and a masked warrior on a horse, followed by a massive army.

The video also features stunning visuals and powerful music by Devi Sri Prasad. Later in the video, Suriya's face appears, his long hair slicked back and a necklace of one hundred tiger claws dangling around his neck. His daunting scowl and authoritative demeanor make an indelible impression.

Kanguva, which means “a man imbued with the power of fire” in Tamil, is not a fantasy film, despite its mythological-like setting. Siva clarified in an earlier interview that Suriya’s character does not have any superpowers and the film is based on historical facts and ancient Tamil culture. He also said that he has always wanted to create an imaginary world and he managed to realise that dream with Kanguva.

The film also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Disha Patani, who plays the female lead opposite Suriya. The film has an ensemble cast of acclaimed actors such as Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, KS Ravikumar, BS Avinash, and Jagapathi Babu, among others. The film is produced by Studio Green and UV Creations and will be released in 10 languages in an immersive 3D format. The film is expected to hit the screens in early 2024.

The first glimpse of Kanguva has hyped up the expectations of the fans and moviebuffs alike. The video  has already crossed over 22 million views on YouTube and has received rave reviews from all quarters within 24 hours. Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement and admiration for Suriya’s look and performance.
