Rajinikanth, the superstar of Indian cinema, has a fan following that transcends borders and cultures. His latest film, Jailer, a black comedy-action flick directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has been released worldwide on August 10, 2023, amid much fanfare and excitement. While fans in India celebrated the film’s release by bursting crackers, showering flowers, and performing rituals, a video of a Japanese couple who travelled all the way from Osaka to Chennai to watch the film in a local theatre has gone viral on social media.

The couple, identified as Yasuda Hidetoshi and his partner, are ardent fans of Rajinikanth and have been following his films for almost 20 years. Yasuda is fluent in Tamil. He even delivered some of the veteran actor’s dialogues from Jailer and other films while speaking to the media.

"To see the Jailer movie, we have come from Japan to Chennai," said Yasuda Hidetoshi, Rajinikanth fan club leader in Japan." The couple wore matching Rajinikanth-themed T-shirts and held fans with Rajinikanth and Tamannaah Bhatia’s photo from Kaavaalaa song printed on them. They expressed their happiness and excitement to watch the film with fellow fans in Chennai.

This is not the first time that the Japanese couple has travelled to Chennai to watch a Rajinikanth film. They have previously visited the city to watch Darbar and Kabali as well. They are among the many Japanese fans who have been fascinated by Rajinikanth’s charisma and style ever since his film Muthu (1995) became a blockbuster hit in Japan.

Jailer is Rajinikanth’s 169th film and features him as a retired cop with a hidden past. The film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Sunil, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu, and Vasanth Ravi in pivotal roles. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal makes a cameo appearance in the film. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film is expected to become a blockbuster hit at the box office and add another feather to Rajinikanth’s cap.
