Watch: Rahul Gandhi arrives at the Parliament and Congress MPs pour him a rousing welcome!

Hours after his Lok Sabha membership was restored by the Lok Sabha Secretariat following the staying of his conviction, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has arrived at the Parliament on Monday - August 7 and as he arrived at a high time when the Congress party has moved a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence in the Manipur issue, the party MPs had poured Rahul Gandhi a rousing welcome.

Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was revoked when he was convicted by a Gujarat court in a criminal defamation case with two-year imprisonment earlier this March. He had waged a legal battle against the conviction and finally, the Supreme Court has on August 4 stayed his conviction and the verdict from the apex court has paved the way for Rahul Gandhi to return to the Lok Sabha as an MP.

Rahul Gandhi has been representing the Wayanad parliamentary constituency in Kerala and after his conviction was stayed by the Supreme Court, several Congress leaders urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to reinstate Rahul Gandhi to the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi's presence in the house would be crucial for the opposition parties to take on the BJP regime and with the view of bringing him to the Lok Sabha in the ongoing monsoon session, the party's leadership had petitioned the Speaker to lift the suspension.

On Monday - August 7, three days after the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued an official notification announcing that Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership has been restored and that he can take part in the parliamentary proceedings. Following the notification, the Congress leaders in Delhi had celebrated his comeback and it was announced that Rahul Gandhi will come to the Lok Sabha at 12 pm.

As his membership has been restored, Rahul Gandhi left his residence to attend the parliament proceedings and to welcome him, a score of Congress MPs had gathered at the Lok Sabha entrance and when Rahul Gandhi arrived, they shouted 'Rahul Gandhi zindabad'. They provided a rousing welcome to the Congress leader as he entered the lower house with more expectation and attention.

Rahul Gandhi's presence would boost the opposition alliance INDIA to fight against the BJP regime. He will be taking part in a debate over the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister that will be held on Tuesday. It is expected that Prime Minister Modi will give his response in the house to the no-confidence motion on Thursday. Speaking about the restoration of his membership, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, "Speaker took the decision today. We followed the legal process and immediately after receiving the Supreme Court's order, we restored it."

Speaking about Rahul Gandhi's comeback earlier on Monday, veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram said, "We are happy that Speaker took the decision today. He can now attend the Lok Sabha." Chidambaram's son and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, "We look forward to welcoming him back to the House. And this will strengthen our ranks. No-confidence motion is coming up tomorrow, this will bolster our arguments on why this government has lost the confidence of India. I'm absolutely certain that he will participate in the no-confidence motion."
