The life and achievements of one of the greatest bowlers in cricket history, Muttiah Muralitharan, will be showcased on the big screen in the upcoming film ‘800’. The biopic, which is named after the record number of wickets taken by the Sri Lankan legend in Test matches, was launched by none other than his former rival and friend, Sachin Tendulkar, in Mumbai today.

The trailer of the film gives a glimpse into the personal and professional journey of Muralitharan, who faced many challenges and controversies in his illustrious career. The film also highlights his humanitarian work and his role in the reconciliation process after the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka.

“I am very proud because they came (Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya) and launched it for me. And also I feel that this project has been going on for last 5 years and now it has come to real. Hopefully people enjoy this movie,” Muralitharan told ANI.

The film features Madhurr Mittal, who played the role of a sprinter in the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, as Muralitharan. Mahima Nambiar plays his wife Madhimalar, while Naren, Nassar, Vela Ramamoorthy, Riythvika, Vadivukkarasi, Arul Das, and others portray important roles in his life.

The film is written and directed by MS Sripathy, who said that he was inspired by Muralitharan’s story of overcoming odds and becoming a legend. He also said that he wanted to showcase the human side of the cricketer, who is often misunderstood by many.

The film will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages, and will cater to the fans of cricket across India and abroad. The film is to hit the theatres on 6 Oct 2023.
