Watch: Singapenne of Chennai...A woman police inspector carries a man on her back amid heavy rains!

After battling against the Covid-19 pandemic, the frontline workers are again winning hearts for their courageous front-line fight and their measures in rescuing the people who are affected due to heavy rains in Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu. The coastal districts of the state have been witnessing heavy downpours for the past few days and Chennai has been bracing up a historical rainfall since 2015.

Amid a heavy rainfall and massive disruption triggered by the downpour, a woman police inspector in Chennai has become the talk of the town after she carried a man on her back to rescue him. The video of the scene has been going viral on social media and the woman cap has been flooded with commendations. According to reports, Inspector Rajeswari of TP Chatram had rescued a man by carrying him on her back and she didn't stop there, she ran by carrying the man to catch an auto to take him to the hospital.

On the morning hours of Thursday - November 11, the TP Chatram Police station had received phone calls about the body of a young man that was inside the inundated cemetery in Kilpauk. A police team under Inspector Rajeswari had reached the cemetery following the calls at around 8.30 am and when she went near to the body, she noticed that the man, identified as 25-year-old Udhayakumar, was alive and battling for survival.

He was submerged in the rainwater and struggling for breathing. Amid heavy rainfall, Rajeswari neither waited for an ambulance nor left the place by ordering her subordinates to take care of him. She bravely lifted Udhayakumar and carried him over her shoulders. With a young man on her back, Rajeswari was seen going to the police jeep and other officials had handed over a dry towel for Udhayakumar. The woman inspector was then seen running on the road, by carrying Udhayakumar, to catch an auto-rickshaw.

After finding an auto, Rajeswari puts Udhayakumar into it and asks the driver to take him to the hospital. Udhayakumar was made to lie down in the passenger seat and the police officers had accompanied him to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital. The reports say that Udhayakumar has been getting treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A news agency has reported that Udhayakumar works in the Kilpauk cemetery and lives with his mother.

A police official said that it was unsure how long Udhayakumar had been there in the cemetery and the TP Chatram police station had received the calls saying that the man was dead and lying next to the graves. Following the call, the police team went to the spot and found that he was alive. Instead of waiting for an ambulance, Rajeswari decided to shift him to the hospital immediately and carried him on her shoulders. As the video has been going rounds on social media, several Chennaiites celebrate Rajeswari as the Singapenn (Lioness) of the city and commended her for her commitment to saving lives.
