By stating that his father is not under sedation, Charan said SPB is very clear, bright, and physiotherapy is going on as planned and added that a small wedding anniversary celebration for SPB and his wife had taken place at the hospital over the weekend. On August 5, he was tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection and he was admitted to the MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai, where he has been getting treated currently.

While he said that he had a mild infection and would be discharged in two days, his health had taken a wrong turn on August 13 after his health condition attained a setback following which he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was spelled at a critical stage and was put under the support of the ventilator and ECMO. He had been battling for survival while millions of his fans had sent their heartfelt prayers and wishes to the singer for his speedy recovery.

Reputed and veteran actors and fraternities like Rajinikanth, Ilaiyaraaja, and Bharathiraja had sent their prayers for the singer and Tamil Nadu had last month organized a mass prayer where lakhs of the general public and his fans had offered prayers by holding his portraits, candles, and singing his songs. On August 26, the singer has responded to the treatment and he gradually returned stable from being at the critical state.
