Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Wednesday released a video message appealing to the people to adhere to the government's guidelines in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The video has come in a way of reiterating his government's commitment to addressing the health crisis sparked by the horrendous second wave of the pandemic.
He released the video message on his Twitter handle and in a three-minute-long video, Stalin has urged the public to get themselves vaccinated and highlighted the importance of following the preventive measures such as wearing masks and observe social distancing to prevent the spread of the viral infection. He also has instructed the people to practice all precautions.
The Chief Minister said, "Avoid stepping out of house unnecessarily. If anyone is going out of the house due to unavoidable circumstances, they should strictly follow social distancing and wear a mask." By branding masks as life-saving protective gear for the people during the pandemic, MK Stalin has demonstrated the appropriate way to wear a mask and said that the mask should cover the mouth and nose completely.
He also said that the doctors are instructing to wear double masks while working in the office, going to the shops and hospitals, and travelling in public transport. He had shown how people should clean their hands using sanitisers. He said that it is important to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. "I took both the doses of the vaccine. A few experience body ache and temperature. But it will subside within a day. So, don't hesitate to take the vaccination", the Chief Minister added.
He said that people can protect themselves and their loved ones from the pandemic if they follow these safety measures and he also had appealed to the people to help the government to make the state free from the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu will commence the third phase of the vaccination on May 20 in which the state will be vaccinating people in the age group of 18-44 years.
Tamil Nadu is currently vaccinating the people with Serum Institute's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. So far, Tamil Nadu has received 9.62 lakh doses of the order placed for 13.85 lakh doses. On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 33,059 fresh COVID-19 cases, 21,362 discharges, and 364 deaths. Overall, the state has recorded 16,64,350 cases in total so far as of Tuesday of which 2,42,929 are active, 14,03,052 have been discharged, and 18,369 had succumbed to the viral infection.
