Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has won the crucial test of his leadership with his party's magnificent victory in the state urban local body polls. DMK has swept the majority of local bodies across the state and the party had made a historical triumph in the ADMK's stronghold. It is the first local body election in eleven years, which in a way has become the first for MK Stalin as the Chief Minister.

It is also the first major election after the 2021 assembly polls which put MK Stalin's leadership under test. After hectic campaigns and polling that was held last Saturday, the votes were counted on Tuesday -February 22 and DMK has been leading across the state. In what has been termed as a historical triumph, the victory has thrown more weight and responsibility for MK Stalin as he prepares to reign the urban local bodies.

Amid the signs of victory, the DMK cadres had been celebrating across the state. Hundreds of DMK members had gathered at the party's headquarters Anna Arivalayam and distributed sweets to each other while the opposition parties were bracing up the debacle. With the victory in hand, MK Stalin had addressed the press at the party's office in the evening hours of Tuesday during which he proclaimed that the DMK has captured the fortress of ADMK.

During his address, MK Stalin said, "DMK and its allied parties have won impressively in the urban local body polls. I thank the Tamil Nadu people for giving a magnificent victory for the DMK and its allied parties. This victory is the endorsement of the party's rule in the state for the past nine months. It is the recognition from the people to the Dravidian model. I am not arrogant over the victory. It has added more responsibility. DMK's motive is to give power to women. My congratulations to everyone. Don't celebrate this victory lavishly."

"We should ensure that there is no allegation against the DMK candidates. If there is an allegation, strict action will be taken against them regardless of their profile. We have captured ADMK's fortress of the Kongu belt. I am ready to meet the people at any time", Stalin added. He further instructed the party members that everyone has to fulfil the hope of the people and has to work even for the people who didn't vote for them.

Stalin's address had drawn huge attention even as the DMK is preparing for the Mayor election, which will be held on March 4. In a big blow to the ADMK, DMK has tasted an impressive victory in the Kongu best districts including Salem, Coimbatore, and Karur. Several ADMK leaders including Edappadi Palaniswami and SP Velumani had lost their strongholds at their respective home turf.

The polls were held to fill 12,838 seats in 21 municipal corporations, 138 municipalities, and 490 town panchayats.
