"We have lost a good artist"... Kamal Haasan mourns the loss of versatile actor-director Marimuthu

The Tamil film industry is in shock after the sudden demise of actor and director Marimuthu, who passed away on Friday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 56 years old and is survived by his wife and two daughters . Marimuthu’s fans and admirers are also mourning his loss and remembering his memorable performances.

One of the celebrities who expressed his grief over Marimuthu’s death was veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who took to X (formerly Twitter), to share his condolences. “Deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of director and character actor Marimuthu, who has been in the hearts of the audience with his unique performances. We have lost a good artist. My deepest condolences,” he wrote.

Marimuthu was known for his versatile roles in films such as Pariyerum Perumal, Marudhu, Komban, Yudham Sei and many more. He also directed two films, Kannum Kannum and Pulival, both starred Prassana in the lead. Marimuthu was also a popular face on the small screen serial Ethir Neechal. He was known for his natural and realistic acting style, which won him many fans and appreciation.

Many other film personalities, from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Superstar Rajinikanth, Suriya, Vijay Kanth, Seeman, Sarathkumar, Mari Selvaraj, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radikaa Sarathkumar and Prasanna, also paid their tribute to Marimuthu on social media. They praised his talent, humility and contribution to Tamil cinema.

Marimuthu’s last film was Jailer, directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar and starring Rajinikanth. The film was released on August 2023 and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Marimuthu played the role of a supporting character to the antagonist.

Marimuthu, who passed away on Friday morning due to a heart attack. He was 56 years old. He was dubbed for the hit serial Ethir Neechal, in which he played a pivotal role when he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. He was declared dead on arrival.
