Welcome back MSD...Dhoni's comeback surprised Indian players! How it will help India?

The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup that will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Oman next month. Team India has a good fluency when it comes to the T20 as several young guns of the fleet are products of the IPL  and the Indian contingent will go the battle after competing against the fellow compatriots in the Indian Premier League. The current edition of the IPL will be resuming in the United Arab Emirates on September 19 and will run till October 15, two days ahead of the commencement of the T20 World Cup.

Amid the ongoing preparations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on Wednesday announced the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup and when the cricket fans had made their own predictions on who will win a ticket in the squad, the BCCI took everyone including the current Indian players into big surprise by announcing the comeback of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. Dhoni is the doyen of Indian cricket and has been regarded as the successful captain of India with winning several global titles including the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC World Cup in 2011.

MS Dhoni has announced his retirement from International Cricket last year and he is going to come back to cricket not as a player but as a mentor for the team to guide the players for the tournament that he is expertise. In a press conference on Wednesday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has unveiled the squad during which he announced, "Former India Captain MS Dhoni to mentor the team for the T20 World Cup." Shah added, "I spoke to him (Dhoni) in Dubai. He agreed to be the mentor for WT20 only and I discussed it with my colleagues and we all are on the same page."

"I spoke to captain (Virat Kohli) and vice-captain (Rohit Sharma) and everyone agreed", Jay Shah stated. The announcement of Dhoni's reentry has become a huge cheer for the Indian fans as Team India pitches on with the campaign of lifting the T20 trophy after 14 years. Dhoni's induction as a mentor was immense amazement and behind this surprise, there was a hardcore drive of convincing the former captain to take up the role. According to reports close to the developments, Jay Shah has initiated the move to bring in Dhoni as the mentor for the Indian team. Dhoni's induction was kept covert until the announcement and several BCCI officials learned about it after the announcement was made public.

Speaking to a news agency, a BCCI official has said that they had no idea about this induction and Dhoni's pick has come as a pleasant surprise. Several officials had congratulated Jay Shah for bringing MS back to the dressing room. Some Indian players had also sounded awe over Dhoni's induction. One of the current Indian players had also said that they are surprised to know that Dhoni has been picked as the mentor and said that the players will again have him in the dressing room and his experience and presence will really help the squad. It has been reported that Dhoni has been brought in for his experience and his strategy for white-ball cricket.

As the mentor, Dhoni will be supporting the team and would arm India's coaching mechanism to play in what have already become familiar pitches for the Indian players during playing the IPL. Most importantly, the induction has stirred the speculations on whether Dhoni will be succeeding Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the team following the latter's tenure. It's been said that Jay Shah was instrumental in succeeding the plan of Dhoni's induction. He kept the plan with him and he formally discussed it with Dhoni in Dubai during his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates for the launch of the T20 World Cup trophy.

Dhoni has been camping in Dubai as he is going to captain the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL matches and Shah had held a virtual discussion with the legendary captain about inducting him as the mentor for the Indian squad for the world cup. After convincing Dhoni, Jay Shah took up the plan with the rest of the Indian team management including Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli. They had welcomed the idea post which it has got its fullest shape of a final announcement. Experts believe that Dhoni is out of international cricket, but he hasn't lost his control over the game and even today, his captaincy is of global significance, thanks to his razor-sharp mind, and he is a master of reading the pitches and leading the team for a swift adaptation.

Dhoni's presence is still felt in Indian cricket as several young players are fond of following his footsteps and his mentorship will strengthen Kohli's captaincy and the team's campaign. Kohli is emerging as a significant captain but his track record on the T20s has been dimming be it in the IPL and the international tournaments. It is believed that BCCI has made the decision with the aim that Dhoni's mentorship will set things right in the T20, where India needs to improve at the global stage. It must be noted that India has lost the 2017 Champions Trophy to Pakistan and while it sparkles in the Test cricket, it is in the necessity of not losing the grip in the limited over games.

One of the main ingredients that made Dhoni back into the dressing room is his calming gesture and rapport with the Indian team management and players. With the new role, Dhoni will enter the dressing room to cheer up the Indian team with his nuantic-cricketing strategies. For Dhoni, mentorship is another feather to his versatile cap that shined both in blue and yellow. On Wednesday, the BCCI has unveiled the Indian squad for the T20 world cup and Indian ace spinner R Ashwin comes back to the squad of limited-overs after four years. Here's the 15-member Indian squad - Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (Wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy. Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar have been inducted as standby players.
