Well-known Tamil film producer dies due to COVID-19, becomes the first victim in Kollywood!

Reputed Tamil film producer V Swaminathan has passed away on Monday due to the COVID-19 viral infection at the age of 62, becoming the first victim in the Tamil movie industry claimed by the global pandemic. 

Swaminathan had collaborated with K Muralidharan and G Venugopal and the trio had worked together and produced many movies under the banner of Lakshmi Movie Makers, which is one of the significant production houses known for producing some of the welcoming and everlasting movies. 

The deceased producer had tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago and was getting treated at a private hospital in Chennai. However, his health deteriorated and he breathed his last on Monday, becoming the first victim in Kollywood. Besides being a producer, Swaminathan has appeared in the cameo roles in several films and he was the father of well-known comedy actor Ashwin Raja, who got married in June. 

Ashwin Raja had appeared in the movies like Boss Engira Baskaran and Kumki. As a producer, Swaminathan has produced the movies that were acted by some of the thespians with stardoms in the industry. Lakshmi Movie Makers had debuted its role as a production company by producing 1994 released 'Aranmanai Kavalan'.

His production house then went on to produce Ajith starred 'Unnai Thedi' (1999) and 'Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen' (1998) and these two movies had attained huge success. It also produced Vijay starred 'Priyamudan' (1998) and 'Bhagavathi' (2002) which also seen a good reception in the market. 

The production house further produced one of the successful movies of Dhanush 'Pudupettai' (2006) and Kamal Hassan starred 'Anbe Sivam' (2003). Jayam Ravi starred 'Sakalakala Vallavan' (2015) was the final movie that it produced under its banner. After knowing the death of the reputed producer, Kollywood fraternities have been paying their condolences and solacing the family of the deceased. 

 

Director and Actor Mano Bala said "Shocking..really sad ..my good friend...RIP". Actor Shanthnu took to Twitter and said, "Shocking #Swaminathan sir #LMMMovies Condolences to the family RIP". Director Ponram said, "Had heard heartbreaking news about the loss of V Swaminathan sir. My deepest condolences to his family. A very humble person. May your soul rest in peace."

 

In what has become a shocking demise to Kollywood, Swaminathan was surviving with his wife and two sons. The reports say that the last rites of the producer would take place as per the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
