From 'What to think' to 'How to think': PM Modi calls to get prepared to accept NEP 2020!

In the midst of criticisms that surfaced around the recently approved National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the nation to get prepared to accept and adapt the new education policy which is set to lay the foundation of a new India of 21st century.

While delivering the virtual inaugural address on Friday at the 'Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under the National Education Policy' organized by the Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Prime Minister said that the NEP 2020 will be benefitting the educational sector of India.

He patted the education policy by stating that the new NEP will be emphasizing on 'how to think' from the existing system of 'what to think'. He stated that people of any religion and community didn't articulate that there is any kind of bias or discrimination in the new policy, which shows that the NEP has been awaited for a long time.

The Prime Minister further called out that everyone has to play an important role in the new education policy and the objective of the policy is that the education system of the country should keep its current and future generations 'future-ready' and the National Education Policy will build the foundation for a New India and for a 21st century India.

By citing that the policy has been widely welcomed across the nation, the Prime Minister said that everyone has been focusing on how the policy will be implemented. Modi further highlighted the need for mother-tongue till the primary education and said the when students are taught in their mother tongue or regional language, their understanding of the subject becomes much better and with the view of that, the students till class 5 will be taught in the mother tongue.

He further stated that the NEP has established a new global standard as the nation is re-structuring into a 5+3+3+4 curriculum from the existing 10+2 structure of the school curriculum and the NEP gives special care for the dignity of the teachers. He further called that the nation must work together to implement the National Education Policy.

However, the NEP had drawn major flak from the opposition and various stakeholders. While the opposition accused the center of saffronizing the education, the political parties in Tamil Nadu had voiced against the three-language formula in the policy which makes two Indian -language mandatory. The formula had met with outrage in Tamil Nadu as the ruling state government had said the state has no place for the three language formula and requested the center to consider the policy with the view of the interests of people.
