Following the release of the much-awaited Ponniyin Selvan trailer on Tuesday, the movie has quickly reached heights and become the viral talk of the internet as the fans reacted in awe to the throng of iconic stars in one place on what has become a very significant day in the Tamil cinema history.

The audio launch was attended by big celebrities like Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, director Shankar, Aishwarya Rai Bacchan, Parthipen, and A R Rahman, as well as the film's leads, at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. When superstar Rajinikanth took the stage, he revealed that he was once asked by Mani Ratnam to play the role of Vandiyadevan in Ponniyin Selvan.

Rajinikanth said, "Once in a Kumutham magazine, late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa responded to a reader's question that she would like to see Rajinikanth in the Ponniyin Selvan movie as Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan." He continued that when he was asked by Mani Ratnam to play the role of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, he refused because his fans would become furious.

Superstar further said, "There are three heroes of this event. One is Kalki, the next is producer Subaskaran, and the other one is Mani Ratnam. I used to wonder why this novel series was never made as a film. I think it could be because back then the part 1 and part 2 trend was not there. This film will become an achievement in Indian cinema".

Later, Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan talked about his earlier attempt to adopt the book of Ponniyin Selvan for the screen. "Mani Ratnam and I have spoken extensively about the film, which is a separate story," he said. "I often wondered if Mani or I would create something akin to Ponniyin Selvan. I attempted but failed. But Mani has always had this dream. This movie will do well. And I'm happy to be a part of it," he added.

Speaking about his experience working in his magnum opus, actor Karthi, who plays Vandiyadevan, said, "This is a historical stage. When people address us with the names of our characters, I suppose our careers are going to change. I salute Kalki here. Kamal sir wanted to do this with Mani back in 1989. I was nervous about playing the Vandhiyathevan since even Kamal sir wanted to play the same role. I appreciate him for leaving something for us to do. We are grateful to have been born into this generation."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan thanked Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth for attending the event. She said, "The presence of Rajini and Kamal sir is a dream come true. We have always admired you and will always do so as your students." Sharing the same, Trisha said, " Unlearn everything that you have learnt before getting into his film. And everything that Aishwarya mam has said. This is a dream come true for me."
