In order to build the grounds of "harassment free zone" in the Madras University, one of the largest and reputed universities in the country, the registrar had issued the circular, which has been circulated around the premises, against the alleged sexual harassment inside the campus in accomplishing to have no harassment zone.
Through his circular which was aired across the state medias, the registrar had given his direction to the victims and affected of such misconducts and harassment to file a complaint before the functioning internal complaints committee of the university or before the registrar or Vice chancellor.
The circular reads that the university campus is build with the place of knowledge and no such alleged crimes and harassment will be permitted inside the campus and further it had assured the victims, that the complaint filed on such misconducts will swiftly be acted upon by the university authorities.
The university, through its circular, had prohibited the faculty members not to invite the students to their homes and if found to have been overruled, it will be declared that the faculty members had conducted misconduct as per the law on Sexual harassment and it had further urged the university students not to accept such invitations from their faculties to visit their homes and the circular had also barred the students to tour with their guides at any cost unless special consent has been acquired from the University authorities.

The reports say that the circular has been issued with the motive of giving confidence to the students that the University had platform to address the sexual harassment complaints filed by the students.
It also stated that any student who has been undergone such harassment can directly knock the doors of the office of Vice chancellor with the representation and the circular reads that an immediate action will be taken thereafter and it had asked all heads of departments to display the circular on respective notice boards to keep the students with awareness.
The reports further added that the move from one of the state's top universities has come after the recent sexual harassment that has been reported by the students of Madras Christian college against two professors in April 2019 and ahead of staging the protest in the college with the demand to take stringent actions against the accused professors, the college management, which initially denied the allegations had eventually had suspended one of the professors while barring the other from entering the college campus after he had filed petition in Madras High court to halt the order issued by the internal complaints committee of the college.
