You must know: TN Govt's guidelines to monitor and curb the spread of Monkeypox!

In light of the emergence of the latest health menace, diagnosed as Moneypox, the Tamil Nadu government has issued guidelines and directions for addressing the spread. A slew of directions includes the measure to isolate the affected people and monitor the influx to the state from across and beyond the borders. 

The state government has issued a direction to the District Collectors and Commissioners of Corporations to monitor and identify suspected cases of monkeypox. The authorities are also been instructed to isolate the affected people at the healthcare facilities for medical treatment. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan has asked the officials to watch out for any symptoms among the people of this viral zoonotic disease.

Radhakrishnan has further said that the people should be monitored if they had travelled in the last 21 days to a country with confirmed and suspected cases of the monkeypox. He stated, "All suspected cases should be isolated at designated healthcare facilities and the cases should be reported to the District Surveillance Officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme." 

He had issued a pack of instructions to the senior officials and said that all infection-control practices should be followed while treating such patients. He said, "In the light of reports of few such cases in non-endemic countries, especially Europe, Canada, USA, and Australia. I request you to keep yourself updated on the advisory and ensure that relevant surveillance suggested is followed up scrupulously." 

Radhakrishan had then shared the advisory from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on monkeypox. He added that the laboratory samples of fluid from vesicles, blood, and sputum. The samples would be sent to NIV Pune for testing in case of suspicion. If a positive case is detected,  then contact tracing has to be done to identify the contacts of the patients in the last 21 days,
