You must know: Will MS Dhoni play the IPL 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans?

The 16th edition of the fervorous Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin with a bash on Friday - March 31 in Ahmedabad. Getting the fans back to the iconic arenas, this year's IPL will resume the grandeur inauguration after four years. Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, which is one of the successful teams in the IPL, will take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday evening.

Ahead of the opening match, there were several speculations over Dhoni's participation in the clash as it was said that he was struggling with a niggle in his left knee and is in some health discomfort. For the CSK fans, for whom Dhoni is synonyms to everything from a hero to an inspiration, the likely absence of the icon would surely disappoint them and they were in a mood to miss Dhoni's action in the opening match.

As the questions were rife about Dhoni's health and participation, the CSK management has affirmed that Dhoni will play in the opening match. Dismissing the speculations, CSK's Chief Executive Kasi Viswanathan said, "As far as I am concerned, the skipper is 100 per cent playing." 41-year-old Dhoni is one of the successful captains in the IPL and now, he is also on the headlines on whether the current IPL season would be his last.

Though neither CSK management nor Dhoni had made an official announcement with this regard, the experts say that the current reason would presumably last for Dhoni and that he may given a vital task in the future to enhance the Indian cricket. On the other hand, several cricketers have flanked Dhoni and asserted that he is still fit to the game. Recently, in a press meet, Rohit Sharma said, "I don't know if it's his last season. I have been hearing this for the last 2-3 years. He is fit enough. He is still playing. He will continue to play,"
