ADMK Leader D Jayakumar lauds 'Thalaivii' for VK Sasikala's role: But, why he keeps this demand?

Kangana Ranaut starred 'Thalaivii', which is a biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has become one of the first in line movies to hit the theatres after the resumption of the latter. The movie was released on Friday -September 10 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Making to the theatres with the tag of a much-anticipated movie of reciting Jayalalithaa's palatial yet cryptic life, Thalaivii has garnered a mixture of reviews and criticisms from across and beyond the borders, and ADMK has now come up with the demand that certain scenes must be removed from the movie. In the movie, Kangana Ranaut has played Jayalalithaa and Arvind Swami has reincarnated late Chief Minister and ADMK founder MG Ramachandran, fondly known as MGR.

On Friday, senior ADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister, D Jayakumar has watched the movie in the theatres and after watching it, he has demanded that certain scenes must be deleted. He said that these scenes carry unfactual information and were controversial. By citing that one scene depicts MGR seeking a minister post in the first DMK government and it was denied by M Karunanidhi, Jayakumar affirmed that it's against the fact and MGR had never sought any posts.

Jayakumar said that it was MGR who proposed Karunanidhi's candidature for the Chief Minister post after CN Annadurai's death. The former minister said that MGR had played an important role in DMK's victory and CN Annadurai had wanted to provide a minister post to the actor-turned-politician. However, MGR had refused the post and he was then made Deputy Chief of Small Savings. Jayakumar, who also had served as the Assembly speaker, said that after watching the movie, he has reminisced the past events of his journey with Jayalalithaa since 1982.

He demanded that some other scenes including the one that claims Jayalalithaa was in touch with late Prime Ministers of India Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi without MGR's knowledge were not true. It also had given an impression that Jayalalithaa was going against MGR and another scene that shown MGR degrading Jayalalithaa was also not true. Jayakumar had urged all these scenes, that are going against the fact, must be removed and asserted that if these scenes are deleted, the movie will become a blockbuster.

Jayakumar has further lauded the movie for rightly showing VK Sasikala's role that she has come to aide Jayalalithaa and that the former had come to work in Jayalalithaa's residence. The former minister has said that apart from these unfactual scenes, the movie is well made with a lot of efforts and the movie will receive a good response both from party supporters and the general public. Bankrolled by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh Singh, Thalaivii is directed by AL Vijay and GV Prakash has composed the music.

While Kangana Ranaut has played Jayalalithaa, Arvind Swami as MGR, Nassar has played the role of Karunanidhi. Samuthirakani has played the role of RM Veerappan, Madhu Bala as VN Janaki Ramachandran, Poorna as VK Sasikala, Radha Ravi as MR Radha, and Thambi Ramaiah as Madhavan Nair. Made with a budget of Rs 100 crore, Thalaivii was written 'Bahubali' fame by KV Vijayendra Prasad, Madhan Karky in Tamil and by Rajat Arora in Hindi. The movie was made in three languages - Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
