ADMK's next drama: OPS plays his Delhi game...Is he going to meet PM Modi?

After the historical show of leadership tussle and frictions at the General Council meeting that was held on Thursday-  June 23, the ADMK has now been staging the next drama with both the leaders taking efforts to succeed in their agenda. While ADMK's joint coordinator Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) is aiming to become the General Secretary of the party, his rival and party's chief coordinator O Panneeselvam (OPS) has been playing his game in Delhi to deter Palaniswami's elevation.

Hours after the wrap-up of the General Council meeting in Chennai where it was apparent that OPS was being sidelined by the bereft of support, he left for Delhi on Thursday along with his supporters to make his next move. Ahead of leaving Chennai, OPS maintained that he was going to Delhi to take part in the ceremony where ADMK's ally BJP's Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is filing her nomination.

However, the OPS's game plan was to approach the Election Commission to revoke the next round of the General Council meeting that has been scheduled on July 11, where the party is preparing to appoint EPS as the General Secretary. According to reports, as his next move, OPS has written to the Election Commission that the decision to conduct the meeting on July 11 was taken unilaterally without his consent as he has been serving as the Chief Coordinator of the party.

He will also be calling on the Election Commission officials and will appeal to them about the alleged violations committed by the opposite camp during the General Council meeting. In his petition, OPS has further pressed that the appointment of Tamil Magan Hussain as the party's Presidium Chairman on Thursday was illegal as the appointment was made without his accord and knowledge.

OPS noted that as Tamil Magan Hussain's appointment itself is illegal, his announcement of convening the next round of the General Council meeting is also illegal as he doesn't have any right to breach the party's bylaws. On the other hand, the EPS faction is closely watching the moves of OPS and Palaniswami has been holding meetings and discussions at his residence in Chennai with senior leaders and legal experts on countering the charges thrown by OPS at him.

On Friday, OPS took part in Murmu's nomination ceremony in Delhi which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several BJP bigshots. It has been reported that OPS has approached the Prime Minister's office seeking an appointment to meet Narendra Modi for the first time since the latest tussle began. The supporters of OPS claim that he will be meeting the Prime Minister on Friday and will update him about ADMK's leadership crisis and he would also seek his intervention.
