CAA stir: Delhi constable was killed while dozens injured - Here's the update!

India's capital New Delhi has been showcasing its intense agitation against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR). Delhi is camping the protests that have been lasting for more than two months in Shaheen Bagh and apart from voices, the protest sites have also been witnessing the gunshots.

Similarly, on Monday, the clashes that erupted between the pro-CAA supporters and anti-CAA protesters in the parts of Northeast Delhi had killed the police head constable after the protesters have thrown stones and attack the police deployed there. Head Constable was identified as Ratan Lal and after having been attacked, he was rushed to the hospital but he was declared dead. The clashes have been reported for a second consecutive day and the violence on Monday had set fire for at least two houses and vehicles in Jaffrabad and Maujpur areas. Chandbagh area in Jaffrabad had also reported with violence.

The reports say that the deceased constable was working at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gokulpuri and the clashes had caused grave injuries for multiple police personnel.  The gunshots were reported in another incident where a man fired eight rounds using a country-made pistol in the Jaffrabad-Maujpur road before the police overpowered him. On Sunday, the protests against CAA had turned into violence after the pro and anti forces clashed each other. 

The police personnel who deployed there had fired tear gas and lathi-charged the protesters to disperse them from the spot and the Delhi Metro has closed entry and exit at the Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur stations after the area reported with unrest and agitation. On Sunday, BJP leader Kapil Mishra urged the police to disperse the anti-CAA protesters in Delhi within three days. He stated that the protesters want to create trouble in Delhi and the police had given with three days of ultimatum to clear the roads in Delhi and on Sunday evening, both groups had pelted stones each other in Maujpur.

The reports stated that upon the reporting of the riots, the government has imposed section 144 in 10 locations across Northeast Delhi and after the riots on Monday, Kapil Mishra demanded the police to immediately and forcefully remove the protesters from the streets and the violence was reported hours ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to Delhi. Trump landed in Ahmedabad on Monday morning where he visited Sabarmati Ashram and addressed a rally in Gujarat and he has currently been touring Taj Mahal in Agra after which he will visit Delhi. According to ANI, Prakash Surya DCP (North-East) said, "We have spoken to both sides, now the situation is calm. We are continuously speaking to people, now the situation is under control".
