Corona outbreak: TN reports two more fatalities putting the death toll to 5!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported two more fatalities on Sunday who were died due to the Coronavirus and the latest deaths have taken the death toll to 5 so far in the state's territory amid the complete lockdown and restrictions.

According to the press release issued by the Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Department, a 71-year-old male, a native of Ramanathapuram district who returned from Dubai, was admitted at Stanley Medical College in Chennai on April 2 at 9.45 am. However, at 11.45 am on the same day, he was declared dead following which his samples were collected for further examinations.

The samples have now returned positive by confirming that a 71-year-old had died due to the Coronavirus pandemic and he has been recorded as the fourth fatality in the state. The department stated that in the wee hours of Sunday, a 60-year-old male from Chennai has passed away due to the infection. He was earlier confirmed positive for the virus and getting treated at Stanley Medical College Hospital and he breathed his last at 1.45 am and his demise has marked the fifth fatality in the state succumbed for the virus.

On Saturday, the state has reported two deaths related to the virus. A 51-year-old man who was getting treated for the pandemic had passed away at Villupuram government hospital. He was confirmed to have attended the Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month. He was tested positive for the virus on March 31st and his demise has marked the first death in the state linked to the Delhi conference, which has become the national hotspot for the global pandemic. 

The second case that was reported on Saturday was the expiry of a 53-year-old woman. She was confirmed positive for the virus and getting treated at the Theni government hospital where she passed away at 2.25 pm. The reports stated that her husband had also tested positive for the virus and he had participated in the Jamaat Conference. Tamil Nadu has recorded four deaths within 24 hours.

The state has reported its first fatality on March 25th, 2020 hours after the state was imposed with the curfew under section 144. A 54-year-old man, who was admitted at the Rajaji government hospital in Madurai after turning positive for the virus, had died due to the pandemic. The Health Department stated that the deceased had shown prolonged illness and co-morbid conditions including uncontrollable diabetes and hypertension. He was said to have attended the conference in Delhi and came direct contact with the Thai Nationals who were earlier tested positive and have been getting treated in Erode. After his demise, three of his family members were confirmed positive for the virus.

As of Sunday morning, Tamil Nadu reported with 485 cases positive for the virus of which 472 are active patients, eight have been recovered and discharged while five have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state.
