The death of a 14-year-old girl in TN: Police dismiss sexual assault! Here's the update

Amid probing the death of a 14-year-old minor girl in Somarasampettai, the Trichy district police department has, on Tuesday, ruled out the sexual assault as the reason behind her death. The girl's body was found half burnt and recovered near to Mullikarumbur old bridge near Somarasampettai on Monday.

She was charred to death by the unidentified assailants and the district police department has installed ten special teams to probe the death. Upon recovering the body, it was sent to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital in Trichy to perform the autopsy.

According to the reports, the doctors who conducted the post-mortem said that the minor girl suffered burn injuries due to which she succumbed and there was no sexual assault. While the autopsy report is still been awaited, the police department asserted that the girl has died due to the burn injuries.

On Monday, the 14-year-old, who was studying class 9 in the local government school, was playing with her friends and around Monday afternoon, she went to answer nature's call after which she had gone missing. After knowing that she didn't come home, her parents and relatives searched her around the neighborhood during which they found the girl with her charred body.

The relatives informed the police after which the Trichy Superintendent of Police had launched the probe into the death. As the doctors said sexual assault was not behind the cause of death, the police department has been probing the case under the grounds of personal enmity, family problems, the involvement of neighbors, and any past harassment.

According to the reports, the police department has located two suspects and currently questioning them. Earlier on Monday, the relatives and villagers had protested to urge the police to arrest the perpetrators behind the crime. They barricaded the ambulance from taking the body to the hospital. Trichy Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque pacified the villagers and assured them that the case will be investigated on high priority, following which they defused the protests.
