Cinephiles are in awe after seeing Dhanush in a fearsome performance in Naane Varuven, after cherishing him as a next-door boy as Thiruchitrambalam a few weeks ago. Through the reviews from Tweeple, it seems like Selvaraghavan and Dhanush made magic on the screen once again like every time they did. It's known that the film is getting overwhelming reception even though there were no trailer or large-scale promotions. The movie buffs say that there is no surprise why the makers kept the radio silent.

While Dhanush plays dual roles as Prabhu and Kathir, Elli AvrRam, Indhuja, Prabhu, Yogi Babu, and Shelly Kishore play crucial roles. Besides directing the movie, Dhanush's brother Selvaraghavan makes a special cameo appearance, an extra perk, as they didn't appear in the same film before. Naane Varuven has hit the screens on Thursday when most cinema lovers await to watch Ponniyin Selvan.

Naane Varuven has received great reviews from the viewers with a good mixture of entertaining and sinister vibes. The movie opened to a thumping reception and one of the cinephiles wrote, "Naane Varuven first half, Dhanush and Selvaraghavan what a comeback is this! Best interval block." Most fans have praised the first half and the befitting interval timing while some of their reactions change after watching the second half.

One of the Tweeple wrote, "Naane Varuven is watchable. Dhanush as Prabhu & Kathir. Gripping 1st half with a good interval twist but 2nd half is slow. Especially BGM in 2nd half. Climax disappointing." Another user wrote, "Naane Varuven 1st half completed. Omg what an excellent movie. So much excited in 1st half. Dhanush acting as a father was awesome. Yuvan Shankar Raja music and background score and Selvaraghavan cameo just wow. I love this movie. Goosebumps on every scenes."

Another movie reviewer wrote, "#NaaneVaruvaen (3/5) -Good 1st half followed by a decent 2nd but climax falls apart. Terrific perfo from #Dhanush (especially Kathir) & daughter character. #Selvaraghavan surprises with the genre, but writing went here & there as 2nd half progressed. Technical Side & Bgm. Watchable!." According to reports, Naane Varuvean has taken up about 700 screens in Tamil Nadu and the number would reduce to 250-300 on Friday in the wake of the release of Ponniyin Selvan.

Ponniyin Selvan grossed Rs 2.35 crore through the sale of first-day tickets while it has made Rs 8 lakh through the sale of tickets in Telugu. Selvaraghavan and Dhanush have collaborated for the first time in ten years after the movie 'Mayakkam Enna'. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed music for Naane Varuven while Om Prakash and Prasanna GK handled the film's cinematography and editing, respectively.
