Fresh tension for Vijay Sethupathi...Why did a Chennai court issue a summon to the actor?

The fury that took place at the Bengaluru International Airport last month still haunts actor Vijay Sethupathi as the incident has unveiled a fresh tension for him with a summon from a Chennai court. On November 2, when Vijay Sethupathi was exiting the airport, a man came from behind and attempted to attack him. The visuals of the incident had gone viral on social media and the matter had escalated further with the man, who identified himself as Maha Gandhi and claimed to be an actor, has approached the judiciary against Vijay Sethupathi.

Vijay Sethupathu was issued with a summon based on the complaint filed by Maha Gandhi. According to reports, Maha Gandhi has filed a complaint with the Saidapet Metropolitan Judicial Magistrate against Vijay Sethupathi in which the former has alleged that the actor had made derogatory comments against him at the airport. Maha Gandhi had further alleged that the man named Johnson, who is a pastor and was accompanying Vijay Sethupathi in the airport, has physically attacked him.

Earlier in an interview, Maha Gandhi said that he had met Vijay Sethupathi at the baggage area of the Bengaluru International Airport on November 2. It was the time when Vijay Sethupathi had received the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the Tamil movie 'Super Deluxe'. Maha Gandhi said he had congratulated Vijay Sethupathi for being conferred with the national award, however, the actor had made derogatory and sarcastic responses against him. Gandhi claimed that Sethupathi had degraded him in public.

He further said that he exited the airport after warning Vijay Sethupathi. However, he was physically attacked by Johnson as per Vijay Sethupathi's instructions outside the airport. Gandhi had also alleged that Johnson had issued death threats to him. After reaching Chennai, Maha Gandhi has said that he had come to know that Vijay Sethupathi referred to him as a drunken man.

In his complaint, Maha Gandhi has requested the magistrate to book the accused persons - Vijay Sethupathi and Johnson- under sections 294 (b) -uttering obscene words, 323- voluntarily causing hurt, 500- defamation, and 506 (i) - criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code. Based on his complaint, a case has been filed and a metropolitan court in Chennai had issued summon to Vijay Sethupathi in connection to the complaint. The court had then posted the matter for hearing on January 2, 2022.
