Fresh trouble for Narayanaswamy! Whom to choose - M Karunanidhi or Rajiv Gandhi?

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy has drawn flak and displeasure from the Congress leaders and party cadres of the Union Territory after he announced in the assembly that the new scheme for providing free breakfast for school children would be named after DMK  leader Karunanidhi.

While the move was welcomed by the Tamil Nadu's opposition party, the Congress leaders claim that the Chief Minister has been vying to ensure the support of the DMK legislators in the Puducherry assembly and the party's alliance to support him in the next assembly polls. The move has stirred the intra-party furor amid the ongoing fight and dissents with Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi.

According to the reports, Narayanaswamy has presented the financial budget for the Union Territory on Monday during which he announced that the existing scheme of providing free milk for school children would be enhanced and the children would be provided with the cooked breakfast and the new scheme will be named after Kalaignar Karunanidhi.  Upon the announcement, DMK President MK Stalin has thanked Narayanaswamy.

However, Congress Chief Minister Narayanaswamy has ended up by witnessing dissents from his own party for naming Karunanidhi for the breakfast scheme inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi in 2002. The government has been providing milk and biscuits for 1.20 lakh school children in government and government-aided schools under 'The Rajiv Gandhi Breakfast Scheme'. The reports say that the new scheme named after the DMK leader will provide an option for 40,000 children to have cooked breakfast of South Indian dishes.

Congress leaders stated that if these children opt for the Karunanidhi scheme, they would be opting out of the Rajiv Gandhi scheme. They expressed that the food scheme has the same beneficiaries and questioned the Chief Minister on the need of having two names for one scheme. Congress leaders claimed that the Chief Minister eyes for the support of the DMK MLAs in the assembly by naming the new scheme after the party's former leader.

DMK has two MLAs in the Puducherry assembly and the support from the DMK becomes crucial for Narayanaswamy as, without their support, the government won't be survived. Congress leaders further highlighted that Narayanaswamy wishes to keep the alliance with the DMK live for the next assembly polls and earlier, the Chief Minister has created a chair in Karunanidhi's name in the Pondicherry Central University.

The fresh controversy has burdened fresh trouble to the Narayaswamy led government in the Union Territory, which already has disputable and dissented relations with Lieutenant Governor.
