It has happened for the first time: ADMK creates the worst history in its 50-year political legacy!

ADMK has created the worst history for the first time in its 50-year political legacy, thanks to the ongoing leadership crisis that has been getting boiled whenever both the top leaders strengthen their grip against each other.

This time, the latest leadership tussle, was made possible by the efforts taken by joint coordinator Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) to become the General Secretary of the party and the efforts of chief coordinator O Panneerselvam (OPS) to block the former from the elevation. ADMK has organized the General Council meeting on Thursday - June 23 at a private hall in Vanagaram, Chennai.

Amid the recent hotbed in the ADMK that exhibited the magnitude of the leadership crisis within the party, both EPS and OPS have attended the meeting with a vivid support wave for EPS from thousands of party cadres across the state. The party has planned to adopt 23 resolutions in the meeting along with a resolution for unitary leadership in support of EPS.

However, in its order that has come in the wee hours of Thursday, the Madras High Court has banned the party from adopting the resolution on the unitary leadership, which has poured a relief to the OPS faction. However, what has happened at the General Council meeting is a new precedent in the party's history. It is the first time in its five-decade political legacy that ADMK has concluded the General Council meeting without adopting even a single resolution.

Amid the furore within the venue hall and the chorus for the unitary leadership, ADMK senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP-elect CV Shanmugam has delivered a fierce speech in the packed hall during which he said that the party is boycotting all the resolutions and that the party must get a unitary leadership to function as the opposition party.

He had indirectly roared against OPS and the only takeaway for the cadres from the meeting is that the party has extended the tenure of Tamil Magan Hussain as ADMK's Presidium Chairman, the post which EPS had assured OPS if he supports the former's elevation. Besides being the first time for the party to forgo passing the resolutions at the General Council meeting, the sources say it is also the first time where ADMK's General Council meeting has lasted for a short time.

The meeting didn't run even for an hour and chaos was prevailing at every corner of the venue. No big decision was made regarding the leadership as the crisis has been getting escalated. Ahead of concluding the meeting, Tamil Magan Hussain said that the next General Council meeting will be held on July 11. During the meeting, OPS had staged a walkout along with his supporters to express his outcry for being sidelined by the EPS camp.

While he was coming down from the stage, several cadres had attacked him with the water bottles which spurred tensions. To his shock, OPS found that his vehicle's tire was punctured and the political observers who closely watched the developments say that OPS has been insulted by the party. While the supporters of EPS vowed that Palaniswami will be the next General Secretary, the OPS faction has been claiming that the next round of meeting won't be held and they are mulling approaching the court as the General Council meeting was illegal and has violated the court order.
