Justice for Fathima: Amit Shah asserts a CBI probe into the death!

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has on Thursday, after meeting the family of the deceased IIT student Fathima Latheef, assured that a CBI probe will be launched to investigate and to expose the cause behind the mysterious death of the student, who committed suicide in the premises of IIT Madras on November 9th, 2019.

During the meet with Abdul Latheef, the father of Fathima Latheef, Amit Shah has asserted that the CBI investigation would be carried out by a woman Inspector General. The assurance of the Home Minister comes after Abdul Latheef met Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday along with the MPs of Kerala and the reports say that the father has also tabled a formal complaint along with the petition signed by 37 MPs to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

One of the MPs from Kerala N K Premachandran has said that along with investigating the death of Fathima Latheef, the CBI would also conduct a probe on the alleged mental assaults faced by the students at the higher educational institutions in the country. He stated that despite Fathima's father had expressed his satisfaction on the investigation carried out by the Special team of Central Crime Branch, Tamil Nadu, a CBI probe would be added to in the probe. By citing that the Home Minister has assured to launch a CBI probe into the case, the MP stated that no consent would be required from the state government on carrying out a Central agency's probe.

On November 9th, Fathima Latheef, a native of Kerala who was pursuing her first-year postgraduate course in Humanities and Social Services had allegedly committed suicide in the premises of the institute and while it was initially told that she could have hanged herself by citing low marks in the examinations, her suicide note that was in her mobile phone had revealed that she could have been harassed by her department and by the professors.

On Tuesday, the forensic department, which tested the suicide notes written on her mobile phone, has confirmed the authenticity of the suicide notes written by her before committing suicide and the department has also announced with conformity that no one has edited the suicide notes after she has died. By finalizing the report, the department has disclosed it to the Magistrate that would be handed over to the special team of Central Crime Branch, which currently probes the case.
