Justice for Fathima: Victim's father demands an internal probe!

Nearly three weeks after the death of IIT Madras student Fathima Latheef, Abdul Latheef, the father of the deceased student has cited that he will be knocking the doors of the Madras High court to demand an internal investigation in the campus of the institute by an independent agency to unearth the mystery behind the death of his daughter who committed suicide in the premises of the institute on November 9th, 2019.

Before departing for Chennai to meet the investigating team, Abdul Latheef was addressing the reporters in his hometown of Kollam on Tuesday during which he asserted his demand for having an internal probe. He stated that despite the police investigation goes on the right track, the IIT authorities have been failing to initiate proper action to bring out the truth after which he told that he will be appealing to the Madras High court to set up an internal probe.

Abdul Latheef had reached Chennai along with his daughter Aysha Latheef on Wednesday after they have been summoned by the investigative team to examine Fathima's mobile phone in their presence. The sources have said that Abdul Latheef and Fathima's twin sister Aysha would be handing over the laptop and tablet used by Fathima in which, the family members claim to have information on the events that had incited her to commit suicide. The reports say that the probing team had called on the father and sister of Fathima to present when they unlock the phone that carries the suicide note of Fathima in which, she alleged the involvement of three professors behind her death. The probe team would also be expected to acquire confessions from Aysha Latheef.

It has been reported that the summon was issued to the family members with accord to their demand of having them while the probe team examines the mobile phone of Fathima Latheef following which the probe team had sent a notice for the family. The family is also expected to meet the state Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and opposition leader M K Stalin to seek their intervention into the investigations. While addressing the reporters in Kollam, Abdul Latheef has stated that the family has been planning to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the MPs of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to bring the accused to justice.

On November 9th, Fathima Latheef, a native of Kerala who was pursuing her first-year postgraduate course in Humanities and Social Services had allegedly committed suicide in the premises of the institute and while it was initially told that she could have hanged herself by citing low marks in the examinations, her suicide note that was in her mobile phone had revealed that she could have been harassed by her department and by the professors. After visiting the premises and reviewing the investigations, the Chennai city police commissioner had transferred the probe to the Central Crime Branch.
