Karthi, who is riding high on the success of his recent films Sardar, Viruman and Ponniyin Selvan, is all set to entertain the audience with his 25th film Japan. The film, directed by Raju Murugan of Joker fame, is a quirky comedy that promises to be a ‘Made in India’ entertainer.

The original release date for Japan was set for Diwali, but the producers have decided to bring it forward to September for Vinayagar Chathurthi. This shift was made to avoid competition with three other major Tamil films shooting for the same date: Captain Miller, starring Dhanush, Ayalaan, starring Sivakarthikeyan, and Jigarthanda Double X, directed by Karthik Subbaraj.

The makers of Japan are expected to announce the exact release date with a teaser soon. Sources say that the official update will be unveiled on the occasion of the actor's birthday, May 25th. The first look poster of the film was unveiled last year and impressed fans much with the new avatar of the actor.

The poster featured Karthi in a funky avatar, suggesting his character may have a fascination for luxury and a delusion of grandeur. He was seen holding a gold-plated machine gun and a blingy globe, while resting on a couch after a wild party.

Japan also stars Anu Emmanuel as the female lead, along with Sunil and Vijay Milton in supporting roles. The film has cinematography by Ravi Varman and music by GV Prakash. The film is bankrolled by Dream Warrior Pictures, who have earlier produced Karthi’s Kaithi and Sulthan.

Japan marks the first collaboration between Karthi and Raju Murugan, who are known for their versatile and unique choices of films. The film is said to have Karthi playing a new dimension role in a new getup, for which he had undergone special training before shooting. The film went on floors in November with a grand pooja ceremony in Tuticorin, where the first schedule of shooting is underway.
