Last respect for a towering monarch: India's President Droupadi Murmu to attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral!

Queen Elizabeth II is on her final journey as millions across the world are paying their last respect to the longest-reigned monarch in Britain's history. Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8 at the age of 96 at her beloved Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was on the throne for seventy years and after her death, the baton has now been passed to her eldest son.

To offer its respect to the towering monarch, the UK is observing national mourning for ten days. As per the royal protocol, the Queen's coffin was transported from Balmoral to Edinburgh and finally, it reached her citadel, Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. When the hearse carrying her coffin passed the streets of London, thousands of people gathered on both sides of the road and bid a teary farewell to their Queen.

The Queen's coffin will be kept at Buckingham Palace and later, it will be taken to Westminster Abbey, where she took the throne officially seven decades ago. Her body will be kept at the Abbey for four days during which the people will be allowed to pay their homage. She will be laid to rest in the King George VI memorial chapel in Windsor Castle on September 19.

In the midst of the national mourning, the British Government has been inviting world leaders to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The Indian government has accepted the invite and President Droupadi Murmu will be visiting London from September 17 -19 to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Murmu will be offering condolences on behalf of the Government of India.

It must be noted that upon her death, India observed a day of national mourning on September 11. President Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed condolences to the UK people over the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar had visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on September 12 to convey India's condolences.
