From Mani Ratnam to Lokesh Kanagaraj: Top Tamil directors come together and launch a production house!

For the first time in Kollywood, the battalion of top directors has come together and launched a production house and is all set to etch a precedent in the Indian cinema industry as the house will be bricked up with versatile and reputed filmmakers in the Tamil industry. The fans have been relished to see the legends under one roof and expect that the production house will play a crucial role in reviving the industry from the pandemic-triggered lockdown. The news about the production house has been going viral as the significant venture has garnered major reception.

Top directors Mani Ratnam, Vetrimaaran, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Shankar, AR Murugadoss, Mysskin, Lingusamy, Sasi, Vasantha Balan, Balaji Sakthivel, and Lokesh Kanagaraj have jointly launched a new production house under the name of Rain On Films Pvt Ltd. The company will be functioning as a corporate entity and has been registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in September 2020. The production house will be producing content for a variety of platforms including big screens and OTT releases. 

The reports say that the production house will be functioning from director Vetrimaaran's office as its headquarters and its first production will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It has been reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj's project after 'Vikram' will be the first project produced by Rain On Films and the house is yet to finalize the cast and crew of the new project. The production house will also be taking new ideas from young filmmakers to make anthologies, series, and shows for OTT platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix. 

Lokesh Kanagaraj had lastly directed 'Master' starred Vijay and the movie was a blockbuster hit. He is currently directing 'Vikram', which is bankrolled by Raaj Kamal Films International. The movie stars Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, Anthony Varghese, and Arjun Das. The music is composed by Anirudh, making his second collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj and Kamal Haasan after Master and Indian 2 respectively. 

The reports say that the production house was started by Mani Ratnam and Shankar while other directors were brought into the roof as a battalion of filmmakers takes a major leap in the industry. Shankar's tentatively named RC15 will begin its shooting in September and the film will be starred by Ram Charan and Kiara Advani and the movie will be released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. On the other hand, Mani Ratnam is busy working in his magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan'. 

'Ponniyin Selvan' is based on the novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy and stars a huge fleet of popular actors including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lakshmi, and Lal. Mani Ratnam had lastly produced the anthology 'Navarasa' along with Jayendra Panchapakesan. The anthology was released on Netflix and was made possible with a massive unification of renowned artists at all verticals. The nine-series anthology starred Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Aravind Swami, Prasanna, Prakash Raj, Parvathy, Siddharth, Delhi Ganesh, and Revathi.
