Political riot in ADMK: OPS sieges the party's office and a violent clash erupts...Will DMK govt close ADMK's office?

ADMK, which is one of the largest political movements in the country, is all into a tumultuous and rioting political endeavour as in an unprecedented fashion, the leadership tussle in the party has become an acute and chronic disaster as the never-ending drama between the top two leaders Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) and O Panneerselvam (OPS) have reached a new height on Monday - July 11 with the supporters of both the leaders have attacked each other with stones and poles.

On Monday, with the nod from the Madras High Court, the ADMK has convened the General Council meeting that was boycotted by OPS and his faction as the meeting would pave the way for the political elevation of EPS. It has finally happened as EPS has become ADMK's interim General Secretary and while the party has revived the post of General Secretary after five years by abrogating the posts of Chief Coordinator and Joint Coordinator, it has also closed the gates of command for OPS as most of his powers have been repealed and they have been given to his rival EPS.

What has seemingly appeared to be OPS's foresight that his powers would be restricted, he has opened the gates of ADMK's head office in Royapettah, Chennai, ahead of the party's General Council meeting. While EPS and his faction were busy conducting the General Council meeting at Vanagaram on the outskirts of the city, OPS and his supporters stormed into the party's office and sieged the premises to showcase that the party is under their control and to oppose what they claim as EPS's unilateral move to conduct the meeting.

With such events of turmoil since the morning, Chennai has wakened up to dismay and more traffic disruptions for the commuters. As both the leaders fight with the grudge, their supporters have assembled in Vanagaram and Royapettah due to which there have been major traffic jams. Owing to the riots at the ADMK office, the police have blocked the movements of vehicles on the roads close to ADMK's office and the visuals from the scenes have shown OPS and his supporters holding ADMK's flag inside the office.

The supporters of OPS have removed the banners of EPS at the party's office and several other properties were also been damaged. The supporters of both the leaders had turned Royapettah into a hotbed as they pelted the stones and poles against each other and the events have suggested that the episodes of the unending drama have become violent. The visuals have shown that the supporters of OPS have covered their faces and damaged a car that belongs to the supporter of EPS and the cadres have also burnt the effigies of EPS inside the office as the developments have turned ugly.

The supporters of OPS had depicted how EPS have risen to power by touching the feet of the party leaders and the OPS camp has scathingly attacked EPS and said that EPS, who looted Jayalalithaa's belongings from the Kodanad estate, has now decided to do the same for the cadres. They further claimed that the true supporters of Jayalalithaa are behind OPS and slammed the EPS faction as the betrayers of the party.

A new beginning of the unending drama: EPS at the ADMK General Council meeting in Chennai- July 11, 2022.

As tensions have been escalating in the ADMK's office, several policemen have been deployed and according to reports, the DMK-led state government authorities have decided to seal up the ADMK office in the wake of the riots. While OPS and his supporters have sieged the party's office, the senior leaders in the EPS faction have come down hard on OPS at the General Council meeting, which passed the resolutions to contain the powers of OPS.

Speaking at the General Council meeting, senior ADMK leader KP Munusamy said that a separate chair has been reserved for OPS in the meeting. However, OPS has boycotted the meeting and gone to the ADMK office with the goons. Senior leader and former minister Thangamani said, "OPS has been working to destroy this political movement. We must think whether the party needs someone like him who betrayed the party." He added that EPS has dismantled all the ploys against him. As per the latest reports, the ADMK has filed a complaint against OPS at the Royapettah police station that OPS and his supporters have unlawfully entered the party's office and attacked the premises.
