Popular Kollywood fight master Kanal Kannan absconds to evade the arrest: What's the friction?

Popular Tamil fight master Kanal Kannan is on the run to evade arrest after a police case was registered against him for his contentious remarks that, the Dravidian outfits said, had hurt the sentiments of the followers of Thanthai Periyar and went derogatory against the social reformer.

60-year-old Kannan is widely known for his stunt choreography predominantly in the Tamil cinema industry where he choreographed stunts for top stars. Being active for over three decades, Kannan has been active in a Hindutva outfit and has been staunchly attacking the Dravidian stalwarts and parties. His conduct of slamming the Dravidian bodies under the guise of speaking for Hindus has landed him in trouble.

On July 30, Kannan was addressing a Hindutva event in Maduravoyal in Chennai during which he quoted about Thanthai Periyar. He said that a statue of Periyar has been installed before the Srirangam temple in Trichy and asked how a Hindu can visit the temple if it has the statue of someone who campaigned against the Gods before it. Kannan has also said that Periyar's statue must be removed from there.

Kannan's controversial remarks against Thanthai Periyar was going viral on social media and sparked outrage from the Dravidian outfits. As his remarks have created unrest, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam has filed a complaint against Kanal Kannan with the Chennai Police Commissioner. As Kannan has run into friction with the Dravidian outfits, several followers of Periyar have held protest against the fight master.

Based on the complaint from Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, the Central Crime Branch in Chennai has filed a case against Kannan under two sections and the officials were preparing to arrest him. However, after knowing that a case has been filed, it has been reported that Kannan has absconded to avade the arrest, which escalated tensions. Earlier, several police teams were formed to apprehend the fight master only to know that he has fled from the scanner.
