Samantha in medieval attire for the first time! Check out the Imperial Motion Poster from 'Shaakunthalam'

For the first time in her film career, Samantha Prabhu ventures into a period drama, and its based on a play told in the epic Mahabharatha. In the development, after it announced two years back in 2020, the makers have finally unveiled the motion poster and it's promising a visual treat to mythological drama lovers. The film is helmed by proficient director Gunasekhar, and stars Samantha in a titular role, while Dev Mohan plays Dushyantha.

On September 23, Friday, the visually stunning motion poster for "Shaakuntalam" dropped on social media. Additionally, the film's premiere date has been disclosed in the video. Samantha plays Shakuntala, the film's titular character, and Dev Mohan plays Dushyanta, the king of the Puru Dynasty. Taking to Twitter, Sri Venkateswara Creations bankrolling the film, shared the poster and wrote, "Witness the #EpicLoveStory #Shaakuntalam in Theatres from Nov 4th 2022 Worldwide! #ShaakuntalamOnNov4"

The eagerly anticipated film was written and directed by Gunasekhar, and it was co-produced by Sri Venkateswara Creations and Gunaa Teamworks. The promo becomes more alluring with background score by Mani Sharma. The cast of Shaakuntalam stars Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, and Dr. Mohan Babu. Key players include Jisshu Sengupta, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, and Prakash Raj. In addition, Allu Arha, the daughter of actor Allu Arjun, will be seen acting as Prince Bharata. The cinematography is handled by Shekar V Joseph, and the editing is done by Prawin Pudi.

Shakunthala, considered to be the best of Kalidsa's works, is a Sanskrit play that dramatises the tale of Sakunthala as it appears in the epic Mahbhrata. This eagerly awaited adaptation is set in the backdrop of Hastinapur, some of Kashmir, and the Himalayan mountainside in Northern India.
