'You took efforts to inert ADMK': Scathing letter from EPS to OPS for the first time since the latest tussle!

For the first time since the emergence of the latest tussle over what implies to be an unending leadership crisis, ADMK's Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) has penned an open letter to his rival O Panneerselvam (OPS)  which has further fueled the feud between the leaders. In what appears to be a friendly flay from EPS to OPS, the former has claimed that the latter's earlier letter is void.

Due to the fact that it is the first letter from EPS to OPS, it has turned heads and has been going viral. EPS has written this letter to OPS on Thursday - June 30. In his letter, EPS said, "The amended bylaws of the party that was done at the executive committee meeting that was held on 1.12.2021 wasn't approved by the General Council in its meeting that was held on 23.06.2022 due to which, the bylaws have been expired. So, the letter that you wrote to me under the tag of party's coordinator is not valid."

EPS highlighted the upcoming byelections for some local bodies in the state and the last date for filing the nominations was 27.06.2022. EPS further said, "As the deadline for filing the nomination was over and though the party didn't announce its official candidates, a proper invitation was given to you and others for the party's high command meeting that was held on 27.06.2022. Out of 74 members, 65 had attended the meeting. As you have boycotted the meeting, your letter is not acceptable."

"In the same way, with the view of stopping the General Council meeting that was convened by both of us, you (OPS) have approached the Avadi Police Commissioner and filed a complaint to him and you have also filed a plea in the court against the General Council meeting. After taking all the efforts to make ADMK inert, you (OPS) have now sent a letter to me, which is not agreeable", Edappadi Palaniswami added.

Palaniswami has begun the letter by mentioning Panneerselvam as his dear brother. However, EPS has scathingly slammed OPS in the letter and it has come two weeks ahead of the party's second round of General Council meeting. While EPS has planned to conduct the top meeting on July 11, his rival OPS has been taking steps to deter it and both the camps are waging a legal battle at the Madras High Court.

According to reports, the Madras High Court has on Thursday refused to entertain a request to deter the ADMK's General Council meeting scheduled for July 11 and it has further agreed to hear a contempt petition against EPS and his faction on July 4. The petition was filed to seek action against EPS for declaring Tamil Magan Hussain as ADMK's Presidium Chairman in the meeting that was held on June 23.

Before the June 23 meeting, the High Court has banned the ADMK to pass any other resolutions other than what was listed by the committee. However, the petitioner, in his contempt petition, has claimed that the decision to appoint Hussain as the party's Presidium Chairman has violated the court order as it was beyond the listed resolutions. The petition was filed by M Shanmugam, a general council member of ADMK from Tirupur.

In his petition, Shanmugam has further claimed that while the election of Tamil Magan Hussain itself is a violation of the court order, he could not announce conducting another General Council meeting on July 11. He sought a directive from the High Court to ban the upcoming meeting. Observing his submissions, the High Court bench comprising of Justices M Duraiswamy and Sunder Mohan noted that it can't intervene in the issue against the July 11 General Council meeting and agreed to hear the contempt petition against EPS on July 4.
