Shocking: A student of IIT-Madras was found dead in hostel room...Here's what we know so far!

In a shocking piece of news, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was found dead in his hostel room in the premises on Monday. Under the grounds that the student could have committed suicide, the Kotturpuram police have filed a case and probing into the death. It has been reported that the stress could be the reason why the student killed self. 

The deceased student has been identified as Steven Sunny Alappet, a native of Maharashtra. He was pursuing second year M.S. in electrical engineering. According to reports, Alappet was found hanging at his hostel room. A Chennai police official said that the student was staying in a single occupancy room at the Mahanadhi Hostel on the IIT-M campus. 

When he didn't come out of the room during the morning hours of Tuesday, the students informed the hostel warden. When the security personnels broke the room and went inside, they found Alappet hanging to dead. The Kotturpuram police had recovered the body and sent it to the Government Royapettah Hospital to conduct an autopsy. 

While the institution is yet to respond on this suicide, the police have recovered a suicide note in which the deceased student mentioned that 'don't prosecute'. Slamming the institution for its handling of this suicide, the students held a night-long protest against the administration. The students have urged the administration to create a panel of experts to study the mental health of the students. They have also demanded a system to address complex issues and excessive pressure in research projects.
