The state of Tamilnadu is been comprised of twelve corporations and the city of Tirunelveli, which rests in southern part of the state , is one of the twelve corporations currently. The district of Tirunelveli has been elevated to the status of corporation by the then ruling DMK government in 1996.
Soon after the announcement from the ruling government, the city of Tirunelveli had prepared to cast its vote in mayoral elections. Ahead of the elections, the DMK candidate Uma maheswari, who was one of the victims in the recent brutal killings, had gained massive victory and had got the place in history by becoming first female mayor for the city of Tirunelveli in its first mayoral elections which, during her term in the office, she had been widely acknowledged of implementing the welfare schemes for the people, which had been stayed in the minds of people even today that she will be the one to knock the minds of everyone when it comes to mayoral history in the city of Tirunelveli.
She has been married to Muruga sankaran, the retired state government official, who is also one of the victims to get brutally killed along with his wife, and had given births to three children and out of three, one son was died in road accident some years before while the other two daughters had settled with their respective families and the couple resided their life near to the Nellai engineering college with employing one full time maid to take care of the house.
Likewise on July 23rd, the scenes of their lives were unchanged until the group of mob stormed into their house and had killed three including the maid and made their bodies float on the pool of bloods. Having committed the crime, the group had reportedly looted the jewels and valuables before clearing the scene. The mob had somehow managed to mask their faces to get rid of the surveillance in their neighborhood. On that day when their elder daughter, who lives next door, came to their house and stunned to see the blood stains on the doors. With steady heart, she seemed to enter the house and went heartbroken to see the valley of bloods on which her parents had been floating. With immediate instance, she reported to the city's police and had the commissioner visited to the spot with the special team.

The police said that they had formed a special team to fish the suspects behind this murder which had resulted in the loss of the house maid who had the responsibility of raising three daughters and her death had left the daughters to have their hopes busted and their lives ruined. Speaking to the closest source in the special investigative team, the police had said that the killers had sieved their house after taking their lives with the aim of hunting the golds and valuables. The police further added that the scene had witnessed the looting of the jewels from the place which is only known for former mayor and one of the victims Uma Maheswari, which had raised conspiracy that the regular visitors or the family's closest aides could have helped the mob in executing this heinous crime.
The police team first reported that these killings are committed under the grounds of motivated gain and further from the pressure of Director general's office, the special team had started interrogation in all the available directions and the available evidences from the CCTV cameras near to the mayor's house which had filmed suspicious scenes with the connection to the murder. They added that they got a stable and possible evidences while they traced the phone calls of the possible suspects in which it have shown that there are several calls received from the nearby major city Madurai.

In the middle of the investigation, the police team had hunted down one of the possible suspects who owns the car which was suspiciously filmed in CCTV and the police say that there are several cases of burglaries and dacoities registered against him in local police stations.
Meanwhile, after the crime had been reported, the DMK party's, where former mayor Uma maheswari politically belong to, president and state opposition leader M K Stalin had visited the family and paid his last respect and tribute for the city's first female mayor. Speaking to the media, he slammed and accused the current ruling government on its idle posture in the middle of rising murders and killings.
The people need clear, credible investigations from the police under the grounds of burglaries and hate crime through which the truth will be unleashed. With the same motive, the state government of Tamilnadu had moved the case to the Crime branch division.
