Shooting spot or dying spot? Regular mishaps in the same spot!

EVP film city...one of the preferable picks by the big-budget movies to install the movie sets for the shooting has now become the least favorite spot that the Kollywood wishes to stay off from getting into what it has been called as a dangerous place after it recently claimed the lives of three technicians at the sets of the Indian 2 movie.

The Tamil movie industry has seemingly wakened up, not for the first mishap, not for the second one either, but for the third and recent one and the interminable sleep of three technicians are not letting the industry to sleep - some are raising concerns to fix the system towards ensuring the safety of junior and ground-level employees while others are levying the blame across each other. Recently, 'Indian 2' movie Actor Kamal Haasan, Director Shankar, and Producer Subhaskaran have been brought under the investigations by the Chennai police and the police had booked Subhaskaran under the grounds of causing death due to negligence.

The fact is that the EVP film city, which is located in Poonammalee, Chennai, has its own history to say about the repeated mishaps on its grounds and despite the accidents and deaths, EVP has been one of the most preferable shooting spots after Binni Mills in Chennai. Before launching the film city, the EVP groups had a theme park in the same location. The theme park was opened in 2012 and covered 160 acres. The theme park first went through the controversy after the death of a 22-year-old flight attendant Afia Magh. She was thrown out of the 'Octopus ride'. There was a violent jerk and she stumbled on the ground from 10 feet and the car that rolled behind her had hit her head. She got a grievous injury and she passed away on the way to the hospital.

The management of the theme park was criticized for being concerned only for their license and not about people's safety. Later in 2015, the park was closed but soon after the closure, the EVP group had decided to rent the land for film shooting and the group started its new venture 'EVP film city'. However, the land has been possessing the threat to life although it was installed with the movie sets in the place of the amusement park. Superstar Rajinikanth's movie 'Kaala' was the first to encounter the mishap. In 2017, the movie team had installed a huge seat worth of Rs 5 crore in EVP film city. During the shoot, Michael, a technician on the set had stepped on the wire with the current passage, got electrocuted and passed away.
