The High Court accepted the argument from the Tamil Nadu's Electricity board against a litigation that challenged the government's move to roll-out the linking measure. 

Tamil Nadu Finance Secretary N Muruganandham asserted that using Aadhaar verification will simplify the government delivery process and ensure efficiency and transparency.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) doubled the penalty amount for not linking the cards during the stipulated deadline. 

The Union government has given multiple extensions for linking PAN with Aadhaar and it has already announced that the last date to complete the process is March 31st, 2022.

This electoral reform bill has been seen as crucial delivery from the Modi regime and the oppositions had expressed their fear and outrage that the bill would harm the constitutional values.

According to the Income Tax department, out of 49.39 crore individual PAN cards, 32.17 crore had been linked with Aadhaar so far.

According to the latest figures, more than 307 million PANs have already been linked to Aadhaar whereas about 175 million PANs are yet to be linked.
