On Thursday, Union Health Ministry said Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the two Indian states that contribute about 48% of the country's total active caseload and ten states account for 85% of the total active caseload. 

Bharat Biotech and Zydus are the two drug firms that have been approved by the DCGI to carry out the human trials.

 As of Thursday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,56,369 cases so far of which 46,714 are active, 1,07,416 have been recovered, and 2,236 had succumbed to the virus. 

KP Anbalagan was the first minister in the state to test positive after which other three ministers Thangamani, Sellur Raju, and Nilofer Kafeel spelled positive for the virus. 

As the COVID-19 wave exists and likely to threaten in the coming months, the country is hoping for a positive sign from the indigenous vaccines.

Along with reporting a spike in the fresh cases, the state has reported 5,106 fresh discharges taking the tally of total discharges to 1,07,416 so far. 

The officials say that the collector was actively engaging in the relief works and inspecting the containment zones in the district during which he could have contracted to the viral infection

With the current reporting of 1,078 cases, Chennai sees a drop in the numbers, and the city's tally currently stands at 79,662.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had taken COVID-19 testing on Monday and his result came on Tuesday which spelled negative.
