The minister has become the first one in Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's cabinet to test positive for the virus and the sixth legislator in the state to get infected by the virus. 

The deadline for the current phase of the lockdown would be coming to an end by June 30 and the state would be mapped with the sixth phase of the lockdown from July 1st to 31st.

The state government is yet to roll out fresh announcements on what's the road ahead after June 30- the deadline of the current phase of the lockdown.

He has become one of the top leaders in the state to have been contracted to the virus. Earlier, five sitting MLAs have tested positive for the virus.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami would be taking a final call on extending the lockdown by considering the recommendations of the committee and the current situation. 

With the co-operation of authorities and residents, these two tenements become free of COVID-19 and shown that they would battle and recover even if they report new cases.

The state government has, on Monday, appealed to the Madras High Court to transfer the case to CBI for further investigation for what the government is yet to admit as custodial deaths. 

Chennai has turned out to be the active and biggest hotspot for the virus in the state and the third worst-affected city in India after Mumbai and Delhi.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has placed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the victim.
