The deceased surgeon wasn't deputed for COVID-19 duty but she was working in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of the medical college.

The Central government has, on Friday, rolled out the new set of guidelines on how the nation should pedal through the extended spell of the lockdown.

Chennai accounts for 43% of the total cases in the state while the government has been aiming to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases.  

The press release has signaled that the relaxations will be given for the districts under orange and green zones.

The reports have indicated that the government is considering extending the lockdown for at least two more weeks beyond May 3 to curb the spread of the virus. 

The Commissioner of Chennai corporation has announced that people who violate lockdown in the city would be imposed Rs 100 as fine and they would be kept under quarantine for 14 days.

Krishnagiri is the only district in Tamil Nadu to remain under the green zone as it has reported no positive case for the virus since the outbreak. 

The guidelines beyond May 3 would set out how the country will look like for the entire month to deal with the unprecedented ordeals of health care and economical crisis.

The state has reported more than a hundred cases for the third consecutive day when it's just three days away to mark the end of the extended spell of the lockdown.
