Mamata Banerjee had sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal two weeks back without being directly elected as a member of the legislative assembly.

On Monday, two ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra, and former minister Sovan Chattopadhyay were arrested by the CBI in the Narada scam case.

All four were arrested after Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had permitted the CBI to prosecute them in the scam, that was unfolded in 2014, during Mamata Banerjee's first tenure as the Chief Minister.

Mamata Banerjee had claimed that the governor's approval was illegal. The TMC had urged the CBI to arrest Suvendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy who also were accused in the same case. 

Ashim Banerjee had tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection and was undergoing treatment. He breathed his last in the morning hours of Saturday. 

In the recently-held assembly elections, BJP had faced a big blow in its campaign after Mamata Banerjee had retained the reign and became the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third consecutive time.

TMC had won the elections with a remarkable majority and while TMC has won the polls, Mamata Banerjee had lost Nandigram to Suvendu Adhikari in a margin of over 1700 votes. 

On Saturday, she had met West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and submitted a memorandum on the violence faced by the BJP members and women in West Bengal.

As Mamata Banerjee has taken the oath not as an elected MLA but through the majority numbers of her party in the assembly, she has to become the MLA in six months from now to retain the office.
