Tollgates - The headaches for the commuters?

It had pictured with the possibilities that the toll gates that were installed in the highways are turning out to be the headaches for the passengers and commuters where the reports say that the ruling BJP government has been committing series of scams and corruptions that were unaware by the people after the highways ministry had increased the toll fares.

The Central government had proposed to install the toll gates along with constructing golden roads system in 1999 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime minister. By carpeting the new proposals, the government had cited that it was running out with having inadequate funds to build highways across the country as its justification on levying toll fares on the commuters through toll gates. Most of the people had welcomed the construction of highways that would lessen the time and fuel but the government and the private contractor had shaped the toll gates as the tree that was branched with money.

It has been reported that for the past five years, most of the tollgates which are being operated by private contractors have been resembling the pictures of looting from the passengers. The sources say that the state of Tamil Nadu has been hosting 43 tollgates in National Highways which runs across the state and the sources had quoted the examples of Chengalpattu and Tindivanam tollgates that were build in 2002. The National Highways Authority of India had acknowledged that it had spent Rs 564 crores to build the tollgates in these areas but it had now earned about 1,098 crores through imposing fares for the passengers and commuters.

The act says if the particular toll gate had taken back the investment, it should reduce 60% of the fares for each vehicle but till now those tollgates hadn't been proposed to reduce the high fare that was levied by the government where the regional director of Highways department had said that the government will review the deductions of the fares after these tollgates had earned additional 350 crores and the sources indicated that the state of Tamil Nadu still houses about eight tollgates that had failed to reduce the toll fare which clearly furnish the mega scam committed intentionally by the government which also had violated the clause that no tollgates should be installed within sixty kilometers but the state has more than dozens of tollgates that were established within sixty kilometer radius.

After having been committing the series scams, the activists had thrown fierce questions to the government on the need of operating the tollgates even after the government had levied respective road taxes, insurances , GST and all other charges at the time when a person buys a car or a heavy vehicle and further cited that constructing the highways to connect major Indian cities is one of the fundamental duties of the government but it had eventually failed to extend its service to the people but instead it has been executing private business policies where the government has been taxing the people in the tollgates, who already paid the road tax while acquiring the vehicle.

The Highways department, after being mounted with huge resources from the people, has been failing to install stable and concrete roadways which has to be accessible by every people which indeed had resulted in the increase of inflation on the basic goods and commodities that will create negative impact to the common people to live their day.
