Simbu, the versatile actor who has been in the limelight for his upcoming projects, has reportedly given his nod to a new film with director Karthik Thangavel, who made his debut with the action thriller ‘Adanga Maru’ in 2018. The film, which is tentatively titled ‘STR 49’, is said to be produced by Ishari Ganesh of Vels Films International, who has signed a three-film deal with Simbu.

Simbu, who is currently busy with ‘STR 48’, directed by Desingh Perisyamy and produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, had earlier opted out of a comedy film titled ‘Corona Kumar’, directed by Gokul, citing that the subject would not be appealing to the audiences post-pandemic.

Ishari Ganesh, who was unhappy with Simbu’s decision, had approached the Producer Council to urge him to complete his project first. However, after a series of talks, both parties reached an amicable solution and Simbu agreed to do a film for Vels after wrapping up ‘STR 48’.

Simbu, who had a plethora of directors to choose from, thanks to Ishari Ganesh’s suggestions, was captivated by the story told by Karthik Thangavel, the young and promising filmmaker who made a smashing entry with his first film ‘Adanga Maru’, featuring Jayam Ravi and Raashii Khanna in the lead roles.

The film was a gripping tale of a cop’s revenge against four rich and influential youngsters who had committed heinous crimes and escaped justice. The film was praised for its screenplay, direction, performances and music by Sam C.S.

The official announcement on the Simbu-Karthik Thangavel project is awaited. The film is expected to have music by A.R. Rahman, who has composed for several of Simbu’s films in the past. The film is likely to be ‘STR 49’ for Vels Films International.

Simbu, after completing these two films, will once again reunite with Kamal Haasan’s banner for ‘STR 50’, directed by Mani Ratnam. Sources say that it will be the first time that Simbu and Kamal will share screen space in a film.
