The upcoming film D 50, which marks the second directorial debut of actor Dhanush, has added a new star to its cast. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who is known for her versatile roles in films like Sarkar, Tharai Thappattai and Sandakozhi 2, has joined the team of D 50 as a negative character.
She will be playing one of the antagonists in the film, along with Dhanush. Varalaxmi has started shooting for D 50, which is set against a Chennai backdrop. The film’s shooting is happening on a grand set erected at the film city in Chennai. The film also stars Nithya Menen, S. J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan and Kalidas Jayaram and has music by AR Rahman. The film is produced under the banner Sun Pictures.
D 50 is expected to be a mass entertainer with a lot of action and comedy. The film is slated to release in 2024, and will be Dhanush’s 50th film as an actor. Dhanush made his directorial debut with ‘Pa Paandi’ in 2017, which was a heartwarming tale of an ageing stuntman. ‘D50’ seems to be a completely different genre and scale, and promises to showcase Dhanush’s talent and vision as a filmmaker.

He also to be seen next in Arun Matheswaran’s ‘Captain Miller’, which is a war drama set in Sri Lanka. He has also announced his next Hindi film, titled ‘Tere Ishq Mein’, with Aanand L Rai, who had earlier directed him in ‘Raanjhanaa’.
